Pakistan drone attacks kills five

Two missiles targeted a compound used by Taliban fighters in North Waziristan late on Tuesday, said the officials.

The home belonged to Maulana Ismail, a commander loyal to a militant group led by Jalaluddin Haqqani, said officials.

At least five other suspected militants are said to have been killed in a drone attack in the region a day earlier.

Monday evening's strike targeted a compound in Mochikhel village, near Mir Ali town, in North Waziristan.

A similar attack in South Waziristan in early August killed Pakistan's top Taliban leader, Baitullah Mehsud.

Hundreds of militants and civilians have been killed in dozens of drone attacks in the past year.

Most of the attacks have taken place in North and South Waziristan.

In the latest strike, suspected US drones fired two missiles at the compound in Dargah Mandai village on Tuesday night, officials told the BBC.

They said the casualty figures could rise, with many people reported injured.

Pakistan has criticised drone attacks, saying they fuel support for the militants.

The US military does not routinely confirm drone attacks, but the American armed forces and CIA in Afghanistan are the only forces capable of deploying drones in the region, say analysts.
